For the first time in France, an international conference bringing together defenders of laïcity from all over the world was held on December 8 and 9, 2023 at the Auditorium of the Hôtel de Ville in Paris. The conference was co-organised by the Association Laïques Sans Frontières (LSF), a non-profit association created in January 2023 in Paris, and the Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain (CEMB), in collaboration with the Comité Laïcité République (CLR) and the Association EGALE (Égalité Laïcité Europe), in partnership with Charlie Hebdo, Marianne magazine, the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF, USA), the National Secular Society (NSS, UK) and the Center for Inquiry (USA).
The event brought together over 40 laïque personalities from all over the world. They addressed a range of themes, including the importance of laïcity for women's rights, atheism in the Islamic context, contemporary challenges linked to laïcity and its role in preserving democracy, among others.
Following the conference, we launched the Paris Appeal, which has already been signed by dozens of associations.
Individual signing up will be proposed in a few weeks' time.
